The Smolyan lakes are located only a few kilometers from Pamporovo - secret, inspiring and surprisingly accessible, this is the place that captivates with unadulterated Rhodope magic. What to expect

Smolyan lakes were once twenty in number, and today there are seven, with the four largest being the most visited — the Clear, the Muddy, the Grassy and the Milush lakes. They are scattered along a picturesque mountain route, where each lake has its own character — from crystal clear waters to mysteriously murky surfaces that reflect the clouds and peaks of the Rhodopes.

Hidden corners and little joys

Here you will find specially designated picnic and barbecue areas — ideal for hot tea and a delicious breakfast in nature. Rare plants and variegated butterflies are found around. If you're lucky, you might see a wild roe deer or hear an eagle flying over the lakes. It is especially pleasant near the Clear Lake, where the silence is almost “palpable”.

How to get from Grand Hotel Murgavec

Smolyan Lakes are about 8 km from Grand Hotel Murgavec in Pamporovo. It is most convenient to get there by car or taxi in the direction of the town of Smolyan; the route is easy and well marked, as the road passes through a pine forest and offers beautiful views of the mountain. Parking is available at the very beginning of the eco-path, which connects the lakes along a pleasant walking route.

Best time to visit

Spring and early summer reveal the Fresh Rhodopes in green and flowering meadows, and the lakes are full water and crystal. In autumn, the area is immersed in warm colors, ideal for lovers of photography and leisurely walks. Winter turns the lakes into a fairy tale, but access to some trails may be difficult.

Practical advice

• Dress comfortably — hiking shoes are recommended, trails are easy, but in some sections there are stones and roots.
• Bring water, light food, and don't forget to bring a camera or phone for photos — the landscapes are exceptional!
• For a full picnic, you can bring a blanket and small treats. In the area there are separate areas for recreation.
• Visit early in the morning or at dusk, when the crowds are less and the light is most beautiful.
