Bachkovski Monastery

The Bachkovo Monastery “Uspenie Bogorodichno" is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria and one of the most significant spiritual centers in the country. Founded in the 11th century, the monastery combines Byzantine, Georgian and Bulgarian architecture and is famous for the miraculous icon of "Sveta Bogoroditsa".

What to see?

• The main church “Uspenie Bogorodichno” — home to the miraculous icon of the Holy Virgin, which attracts thousands of pilgrims.

• The Ossuary — one of the oldest buildings in the monastery, preserved from the 11th century.

• Picturesque frescoes — magnificent frescoes, including the work of Zahary Zograf.
